The bravest are surely those who have the clearest vision of what is before them, glory and danger alike, and yet notwithstanding, go out to meet it.
--Thucydides
This idea is a culmination of over two years of brainstorming, processing and wrestling over how to give back to the greater community as a whole, but more specifically to the men and women of the Armed Forces risking their lives to keep us safe. These individuals live a life of courage, honor and loyalty, aware that the assignment they receive today might be their last.
I have been biking almost my entire life. However, I took up mountain biking seriously in college and continued for a few years after graduation. After a good friend asked me to join her on a 3-day charity bike ride, I was hooked on road cycling. The scenery, the camaraderie and the playful competition were addicting! During my first group ride, I immediately knew the bike would be the method in which to give back to the greater community. I just never knew how make that transition.
I've always wanted to impact the world like Greg Mortenson, the author of Three Cups of Tea. As much as I would love nothing more than to travel the world, building homes and schools, I must be realistic in what I can give of myself. However, that doesn't mean I can't still contribute to the greater good. Therefore:
- on October 8th, I will begin my bike ride from Tiverton, RI to Stamford, CT: 160 miles in one day
So why am I doing this? Our men and women of the Armed Forces need our help. With a little bit of help from everyone, I believe we can make a HUGE impact! 100% of the proceeds will go to:
The Mission Continues is an organization that allows our wounded men and women coming home the opportunity to continue to serve within volunteer organizations in their communities.
My financial goal for The Ride is $10,000. This might seem like a large figure but it is completely feasible if broken down:
- 10,000 people donated $1 each
- 1,000 people donated $10
- 200 people donated $50
- 100 people donated $100
If everyone gave up one cup of coffee from Starbucks or Dunkin Donuts for a week, you'll be on your way to being one of the 200 people to make a small sacrifice to help those making the ultimate sacrifice. If you would like to donate, please click here. For immediate updates on the ride, please find me on Facebook:
160 Miles later, The Mission Continues...
Thank you in advance for all of your support!
