stay cool...and hydrated!!
Unless you've been living under a rock for the past few weeks, you already know that the Northeast has been HOT!! I mean just beyond unbearable!! And if you've continued to exercise outside, it could also be very dangerous if the proper precautions are not taken.
I've touched upon proper hydration previously. However, my chiropractor, Dr. Raymond Santa, posted a great article on hydration in much more detail, including some nifty ideas on how to remind yourself to keep drinking...water, that is!
In addition to proper hydration, you can also move your workouts to first thing in the morning before the heat settles in or in the evening when the heat has dissipated. Although not as fun, you can also move your workouts indoors for the time being.
With the extremely high temperatures and added humidity, its very easy to not only become dehydrated, but to develop heat stroke and/or heat exhaustion. For a list of symptoms, check out this list. For a rule of thumb, stop immediately, seek shelter and hydrate slowly! If you think you are suffering from heat stroke, SEEK IMMEDIATE MEDICAL ATTENTION!
Use your heads and common sense. Remember, you can't workout from the hospital bed!!!
